Alexandria, VA — On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, NRL Federal Credit Union presented a top-level donation of $17,546 to Credit Union Miracle Day, the title sponsor group of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. The funds resulted from a spring debit card promotion which saw the credit union hit a milestone of more than 1 million swipes — double the number of swipes from the quarter before.
“The credit for this donation goes to our members who enthusiastically participated in the debit card campaign because they knew they were helping kids with each swipe,” said Linda Powell, CEO of NRL Federal Credit Union.
The funds ultimately support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNHs) under the umbrella of the national Credit Unions for Kids campaign. Since 1996, Credit Unions for Kids has raised $160 million for CMNHs, $12 million in 2016 alone, making it the third largest corporate donor to CMNHs.
“We are so grateful for partners like NRLFCU. Thanks to their very generous donation, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Children’s National Health System, is able to continue providing top-of-the-line care to kids in our community. Not only will this $17,500 help ensure our patients are taken care of, but the entire family, too!” said Meredith Daley, Assistant Director, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Children’s National Health System.
The credit union is running the swipe campaign again this fall with support targeting a local high school STEM program and robotics team connected to the Naval Research Laboratory.
